FIERA DI GENOVA SpA
Fiera di Genova, established as an economic entity in 1956, became a state-owned public limited company in 2003. The main shareholder is Genoa City Council, which holds 32%, followed by the Liguria Regional Council (27%), Genoa Provincial Council (22%), Genoa Chamber of Commerce (17%) and Genoa Port Authority (2%). The Company's Chairman is Sara Armella, while Antonio Bruzzone is the Managing Director.
Built thanks to a huge "filling" operation based on an urban project by Luigi Carlo Daneri, Genoa Fair and Exhibition Centre - which is currently undergoing extensive regeneration works and an integration process with the urban fabric - immediately stood out for its unique position overlooking the sea, at the entrance of Genoa port, and for its multi-purpose facilities. Fiera di Genova can boast four pavilions, including the "Palasport" (the Sports Hall, Pavilion S), which - besides trade fairs - regularly hosts concerts, shows, and sport events, a 9 thousand square metre tensile structure by the sea, a multi-hall congress centre, a recently enlarged marina, and extensive outdoor areas. During the International Boat Show the available exhibition surface exceeds 300 thousand square metres.
Consistently with the identity and leading economic activities of the surrounding territory, Fiera di Genova has gradually specialised in the marine-maritime sector: the event in this field is Genoa International Boat Show - organised in partnership with UCINA. By organising Euroflora, the great international floralie held every five years, Fiera di Genova's maintains close relations with the floricultural and nursery gardening sector, one of the most flourishing ones in the Liguria region. Fiera di Genova's activities also include several business-to-business shows and exhibitions - reserved to professional operators - and events targeted at the large public, such as the traditional 'Primavera' trade fair.
With a yearly average of 18 events, 4 thousand attending exhibiting companies, a number of visitors ranging between approximately 750,000 and over 1,160,000 (a figure recorded at last Euroflora), sport events, and concerts, Fiera di Genova is one of the main promotion tools for the local territory and generates outstanding profits in related industries too.
Over the last few years, several facilities that are crucial for the further development of the International Boat Show have been built as part of the fair and exhibition centre's regeneration plan: works included the tensile structure, officially opened in 2002, and the enlargement of the Marina, which was finalised in 2006 and has resulted in an overall available water surface of 100 thousand square metres. Today Fiera di Genova is building the new Pavilion B, which will be used for the first time during the 48th International Boat Show. Subsequent activities will include, among other things, the conversion of the former Ansaldo building - located in the western part of the district - into a 4-star hotel with congress centre, the creation of a new western business entrance, and the reconstruction of Pavilion D, which will be integrated with the new Pavilion B.
The architectural project of the new Pavilion B has been entrusted to Atelier Jean Nouvel, Arup Italia will be in charge of structural and plants/systems consultancy. The new pavilion will include two floors used for exhibition purposes and an intermediate floor on the sea side where service facilities and offices will be located. The overall gross exhibition area will be twenty thousand square metres. The new pavilion will be characterised by an extensive use of reflecting glass surfaces and, on the southern side, by a perfect integration with the sea. Info: www.fiera.ge.it
